That Apricot leaf, once healthy, looks so withered and dried out. A symbol of briskness that at sometime in past took me in awe wavering to and fro against the steady air current now appears questionably nonchalant and silent.
But, last night was contrarily anew. As ever when I had just begun mourning his unmoving state of being calm, it showed unyielding resistance to an unkind whirlwind. (Like a child resisting his parents forcing him to attend the very first school day.)
And then, suddenly a volley of disputed questions/arguments swayed the atmosphere.
I challenge you dare shake me again, “said the leaf that seemed dull moments before.”
Wind unfastened its motion, slowing down it stayed and looked away but said nothing.
Leaf asked- so what has brought you here, poor wind?
Wind, returning to its wits, said, “you are equally poor, friend”! Isn’t that the way?
“Oh, I am so very much, but you ditched the first one, why are you here?” replied the leaf.
Wind- I am as frequent as always giving you windy nourishment, but why do you sound so repulsive and unfriendly, unlike ever?
Your words “frequent and nourishment” are mocking my feebleness, answered the leaf. I wouldn’t be this weak had you been frequent as in the past.
Wind- now you don’t cry like a child, I ain’t to be blamed for not being same often. And not only you, I too have lost that pace and agility I blew with earlier.
Who is, then, responsible, asked the leaf?
“Wind takes- can’t you see these giant man-made concrete structures that have become the pretentious pride of the men acting like beasts to us, and blowing against which I lose my directions and zeal? Don’t you smell the unpleasant pungency emitting out of exhaust of cars and buses i am adulterated with??
So, if I am not pure myself, how come you demand nourishment from me!
I am not wind any further, I have become air!”
Suddenly, silence overcame the whole conversation. And the leaf seemed condemning itself.
But I have a plan, my friend wind. We can teach a lesson to not so very humans who we have been giving sustenance. Let’s get disappeared from their lives, only then they will realize what they have done to us!
Wind countered as- but we'll return one day. It should be temporary.
Of course! It will be, said the leaf.
And immediately, then, the leaf shed itself off the branch, and wind was never there.
And, thus now, wind isn't wind and the green has turned black!
